Supplementing in addition to UVB

As per the advice of our vet, we now have a 2.0 UVB bulb for our new gecko Rango due to his past owners not supplementing correctly and him having a few physical problems. I was wondering how often to supplement since there's UVB now. We use Repashy calcium plus which contains both calcium d3 and multivitamins including vitamin A. He is about 2 years old so I know he doesn't need supplements daily. I just don't want him to possibly overdose. Any help would be appreciated.

It's still debatable whether a leopard gecko needs UVB via lights due to their being nocturnal and not needing much of it. However, there appears to be some evidence that they do benefit in the wild from sunlight (and UVB) late in the afternoon. I would imagine that dusting with Repashy every feeding or every other feeding would probably still be OK, especially if your gecko spends most of the "daytime" in its hide and not benefitting from the light you have.

Curious, is the Leo actually basking under the UVB ?

No not really, I mean the UVB light is bright so we use it only during the day and he doesn't really come out. That's why we also elected to get a 2.0 bulb rather than 5.0 or 10.0 just to avoid him overdosing. She said dusting as normal should be fine, I just wondered what people here thought.

The vet gave you poor advice. Leos do not really bask during the day as you have already figured out. Sometimes vets just like to throw a wide net.

If you keep the Leo on a healthy diet with appropriate supplements he should do just fine. Just don't overdo it on the supplements. I am fairly well convinced that the over supplementing causes those armpit bubbles. I have dropped back to twice a week on the supplements and that seems to be adequate, no more armpit bubbles either. I have been using the Repashy as well.
