Where do you place the temp probe?

As the title states, where do you place the temp probe that attaches to your UTH thermometer?

I have mine inside the hide, taped down, but I've noticed (Using a temp gun, aiming downward toward the floor, just above the tank cover) that the temps are around 85 degrees.

So, where are you guys placing for better temp readings?

temp probe inside the hide directly on top of the UTH hot spot is fine. You probably do want to test and see if your temperature gun & digital thermometer are in sync, because they could be giving different readings on the same spot. In which case you'll have to find out which is more accurate.

By the way if you are testing the floor temperature with a temp gun from above the tank cover, that's too high. The accuracy of the temp guns work better when they're closer to the surface you are testing the temperature for.

Not to derail the topic but, I have the probe of the Hydrofarm thermostat directly ON the UTH. Am I doing this wrong??? Is there really a difference as the heat transfers to the tile anyway?
