Gargoyle Gecko Question/Help/Tips

I just recently got my first gargoyle gecko. I am not new to owning geckos I have two cresteds that I've had for over a year. I bought my garg from a reptile expo almost a month ago and have monitored him since. He is eating very well and has no problem going to the bathroom. I really want to handle him since it has been past his two weeks to settle in and he is eating well but I am a bit scared. I did handle him a little before I got him at the expo and he was sweet but very jumpy which I know are gargs are. But I was wondering if they are any tips from a pro about handling him and making it a pleasant experience for both him and I. I am just so so scared that he will jump too far past my hand and he will fall to the ground and keep jumping and then I lose him forever and/or he gets hurt from falling or crashing into something.:( Please help.

Handle him inside the cage at first. Get a box or something, put it near the cage and gently move your hand (with the gecko in it) from inside the cage to over the box. As you get used to each other you'll both get more confident. Just a side note --if they do jump to the ground they will not get hurt and they're not all that fast so you should be able to catch him easily. The biggest problem is their tendency to poop or pee on you when you pick them up.

I agree with the above advice but would add that if you are worried about him falling too far then sit on the floor when handling him!
