Slate Tiles?

Hi, I'm thinking bout using slate tiles for my leo and had a few questions
Do I need a layer of sand between the tile and glass floor and how much?
How often would I clean it? like could i just clean the tile which my leo poops on daily with vinegar or bleach?
And how often to clean all the tiles? once a month? and tell me anything from experience of slate tiles if you have any, thanks !!

I use tiles, and I put a non-adhesive shelf liner under them. Other people use paper towel, I just like the look of the shelf liners better. If you do this it is absolutely crucial that you use NON-adhesive liner. It should be sort of squishy and in a grid pattern. You can buy lots of colors, I have a sandy brown one and a black one.

I take the tiles out once every 2 months, sit them in the sink with vinegar and hot water and soak 'em. However, Duke uses one spot to poop, so I keep a paper towel folded up there and change that every 2-3 days.

What else could you use underneath the tiles? paper towels?
