Hey, I'm going to be getting two crested geckos but I want to house them in a live terrarium, I was hoping someone could tell me precisely how to clean it, in detail for their health :blushing:

Use a clean up crew such as springtails and isopods. Other than that nothing really for you to do except wipe the glass clean as it gets dirty from them pooping while on it. Also use distilled water really helps avoid water spots on the glass.

I second the isopods!

my cresties almost all poop on the glass too. about once a week I take a wet cloth (with only water) and clean it off.

I have a layer of moss over the substrate that works sort of like leaf litter, and I swap it out 2 or 3 times a year, and spot-clean if needed. I've had a few planted tanks going for several years now, and they don't smell funny so this is sufficient.

Isopods are just woodlice, go somewhere pesticide free and go find your own. You can also order tropical/dwarf woodlice and springtails online, have a look at dartfrog and ricks live food, they're both good.

I have no idea where to look in the UK. sorry.

also, for some reason I wasn't able to respond to your comment on my wall. I don't use a mister or fogger. I mist heavily once a day in the evening and let them dry out in between. this time of year I run the heat in my house and everything dries out faster, so a few times a month I will also pour water into the viv to make sure enough is hitting the roots.

it's a good thing to remember that reptile supply places are more concerned with making money than with telling you what you actually "need" in your tank.
