my little girlie loves being held, she is almost 6 months old and has been handled by me each of those days!!! she loved to be pet and has no problem cuddling up with my friends and roommates, but i want to figure out how to teach her to come. she comes out if im talking to certain people or in the morning and looks a me, she also know how to sit at her bowl and beg for food haha. usually when i take her out of her cage i lift up whatever shes under and just pick her up, i know i pobably should but she never squirms to trys to run away because she is so used to it. how can i get her to come out on her own though???

You probably shouldn't handle her every day, that's really stressful for geckos. They only tolerate being handled, they don't enjoy it. It's also not a great idea to lift their hide off of them unless absolutely necessary, because they find that quite stressful as well...

Like, acpart said, you can't really teach them to come. Reptiles in general don't have a lot going on inside their heads. They don't have any feelings or emotions and they don't really care about anything much except for warmth and food.

When I come over near Nieve's tank it runs over. If it is in a hide I start talking it comes out. When I put my hand in Nieve runs over and gets in my hand. So I do think some like people. They have personalities too. So they aren't to dumb :)

Are you sure it's you that it likes, or does it like the fact that you're a source of warmth and food?

All of my leopard geckos associate me with food and will come out to investigate when I am doing routine cleaning. If I do not put any food in the enclosure they go back in their hides.

If you turn out to be the Gecko Whisperer, any chance you can train mine to grab me a cold beverage from the fridge ?

However you think of it, if you enjoy them then great. Mine are my little friends. I'll try to think of something to teach it. I'll keep you informed :D

Funny, my daughter has had Randall for just over a week, but twice yesterday when I went in her room to check temps and said "Randall, come on out", he popped right out of his cave and came over to the glass to see me. Do I think I have him trained? No, I imagine he was just curious, but it was cute nonetheless :)

He clearly seems to already be recognizing the cues to feeding time. As soon as he heard her lift the screen off his cage, he peaked out of his cave with that oh so serious hunting expression on his face looking for food. She got him to take mealworms out of her hand, too. I told her once he knows to associate her with food he will probably start to be more receptive to her touching him.

You Actually Can I Myself Am A Witness Ive Had My Leo Gecko 2 Months And All I Did To Tame Her Was Lay My Hand In The Terrarium With A Mealworm In It For Like A Week, Then Did It W/O Mealworm And She Still Comes Not Saying 100% Of The Time But 85%. And Acpart Is Right They Dont Really Like Us Just Tolerate Because They Know We Control Food,Water And Heat P.S Don't Handle That Much It Stresses Them Out
THANKS!!!!

I also forgot to mention that I never pick up the hide that he's under. I've been very patient with him and let him do all the walking. But I never handle him long, about 5 minutes is maximum for me.

I just posted a video of my gecko coming when called, kinda ironic to see this post actually lol. :)
I just watched your video. My gecko does the exact same thing! It's not really that you've trained them to 'come,' moreso that they recognize your voice and associate it with food.

My leopard gecko, Ivan, has trained me to feed him on cue. Every evening he comes out around the time I get home from work and stares at me and "paws" at the glass until I feed him.

Michael, my new leo, is insane xD My friend's leo, Angelo is so chill and likes people but Michael will do anything and everything in his power to get away from you.

To each is own. It really doesn't matter the thoughts of them. I enjoy when I put my hand in and he comes and gets in my hand. He comes over to the side when he sees me. When I rub behind his head he raises up and dammit likes it.

We raise them to enjoy them. So no mater your thoughts, just enjoy them !
