How much should a baby crested weight before moving to a new tank?

Our baby crested (age unknown) is 4 grams now and currently resides in a large critter keeper. We have a 12x12x18 exo terra we have setup for when it's old enough to live it in. How muh longer should we wait? It's currently feeding on Pangea CGD and baby dubia.

I would wait until the baby is at least 8-9 grams and then upgrade to a 18x18x24 by the time they reach 15-20 grams =) But I'm sure many people have different opinions here.

I think you can move him now. I put my baby in a 18x18x24H exo terra at 6g and he was fine. The 12x12x18H will be okay for a single crestie, depending on how large they get at maturity. I find that once their weight reaches 7g, they start packing on the weight and its not long before they are 16g. For example, my 4.6g baby brought home Dec 8 is now 11g. If they are able to find food they will be fine. In fact most of mine do much better after the changeover.

You could move them now. Just watch to see where they sleep/hide and make sure the food is placed near there so they feel comfortable and safe coming out to eat.

Thanks guys. We've decided to wait till about 6-8 grams to move the baby. We're figuring by then, we have already gone to the reptile show and picked up a lot to decorate the exo terra.

I am sorry for interupting the thread. But i just wanted to ask you is it okay if i put my little baby crested gecko in 40x40x50 centimeters terrarium. I dont know if it is too big for him . I tried putting it today but then i take it back to the cricket keeper. Please take a look I would really appreciate.



It isn't completed, i just take a photo so you can see if its too big for him. I got all the plants and covers completed.I hope you guys will answer.

Do you know it's weight? On that size tank I'd give it awhile and put a lot more plants before moving it to the new tank.

I agree. I think your gecko would be happier with a lot more cover.

Don't be afraid to cover those walls! When it comes to crestie cover, I always say the more the merrier. I've found that cresties are more prone to hang out in the open when they're comfortable and given plenty of choices. When they feel safe, they'll become more adventurous and make themselves seen more often.

Just a quick example, I had one viv on a desk with all 4 sides open. This crestie was comparatively more reclusive than my other crestie, who's viv is on a shelf (the shelf blocks the back and side wall of the viv). The crestie on the shelf loves climbing on the visible walls, hanging out on his perches in the open, etc. During the day, he likes lounging on the leaves right in the front in plain view.

Agreed! I covered the sides of my tank with just plain ol paper and my new girl has started hanging out more often where she's visible.
