UTH with tile??

Hello! I am planning on separating my geckos, (pretty sure they are both Male) so i am getting a second tank set up. I am going to use tile and i have a Zoo Med UTH, but i do not have a uth thermostat. Would the layer of tile help keep the temp down so its not to hot? and is there any other methods of keeping the UTH lower with out a thermostat? 2 layers of tile maybe? or could i do a layer of coconut fiber then tile?? I can not afford a thermostat right atm.

$12 light dimmer cord from the hardware store works.

It's true that the more layers you use the lower the temperature at the top. You could experiment with coco fiber and tile or you could just follow the suggestion above and invest in a rheostat. Hopefully you also have a digital thermometer with a probe.

Use a layer of material before the tile, like the coconut fibre, tile abdorbs a lot of heat
