Williamsi burn

Hello all,

It brings me to great sadness to write this post but I feel like I should exhaust all of my options. I have had trouble in the past with my little girl williamsi and her contents egg laying. She has since gotten over this but now I have a very unfortunate problem on my hands. I feel terrible…

I had to leave to Kansas because of a family emergency early on Saturday morning and coming back right now (Sunday night - 7:15). I noticed she was an intense blue, which is not common for her and she had a really dark tail. I took a closer look and noticed about an inch of her tail was charred black and she was walking very erratically. Erratically as she was violently moving her head from side to side and walking as if her limbs were uncontrollable. I have seen this before… its never good… She is extremely dehydrated so I got her to drink for about 25 minutes. It was a pedia lite mixure. She perked up a lot and gained her colors back but i noticed her tongue would slip out of her mouth often and she still walked the same.

She is now in a small critter keeper with paper towels at the bottom. I cut off a couple of leaves, washed them, and put them in there with on sprayed just a bit. I also placed a little bit of anti-biotic ointment on her tail (this is what a vet book told me).

Anything else? I have a love for this gecko… we have been through a lot already

Sorry to hear about your L williamsi.

Check out the ingredient difference between neosporin cream and neosporin ointment. Heard the cream is better. Still has the chance of being ingested though.

How did her tail get charred? Difficult shed?

What type lighting or supplementation has she?

Hello Elizabeth Freer,

I guess I left out some crucial information, didn't I?

Because I was gone for I family emergency I turned of all the lights and stuck a small heat pad on the glass, right next to her usual hide of bamboo. This has worked countless times before and gets around 75-80 around her bamboo. She must have climbed onto the glass and left her tail on the heat… This is all I can assume. I will take pictures today, as I continue to water her.

I have read red the difference between the too and I wouldn't be worried about her ingesting anything… She only moves sporadically and never enough to make a full turn.

The lights in the cage are: puck light for heat, Home depot brand aquarium/plant light, and an Arcadia forest T8 I believe… Her supplements are the repti-vite and repti-cal.

I typed the wrong names. I use: Rep-cal phos. free, calcium with bit.d3 ultrafine powder. This I use every other feeding so maybe twice a week at most… depends on if she had repashy or lots of fruit flies in the cage. Then herpvite with beta carotene goes into her repashy/nectar mix every other week. Sometimes I also mix her regular food with it every other week because she very irregularly eats the nectar or repashy. She also have a small bowl of crushed cuttlefish bone.

Tail Necrosis!?!?! I have just gotten a message from a concerned keeper that believes I could have a case of serious tail necrosis. She has never had a problem shedding and it did not look like this two days ago… But he mentioned that I should act fast by cutting off the dead part in order for the poisoning to not continue upward. Thoughts?!?!

can you please post a good clear picture of her tail? it could certainly be necrosis, but I would not amputate without a vet's assistance!
