Baby Tokay Hatchling

Here are a few pictures of a baby Tokay Gecko that hatched in the past few days. This is the first time I seen the tip of the tail being white. Is this a clue as to how it turn out when it gets older? The egg was knocked out of the mother's tube so I put in a tube and lightly covered the end with screen to keep the mother from getting to the egg. I was afraid she may of eaten it thinking it was somebody else's egg. So far I've seen the baby during the day but, it stays hidden during the night time. Is the baby afraid of the mother? The other babies that have hatched before stayed in the tube with the mother during the day.
The mother is a blue headed green from Michael Billewicz. I'm curious how this baby will turn out as it gets older. Anybody have any ideas?DSC00050.jpgDSC00044.jpgDSC00045.jpgDSC00046.jpgDSC00047.jpgDSC00048.jpgDSC00049.jpg

Since the egg was removed from the mother's care, she might not realize that's her offspring. Also is the hatchling's father a blue headed green as well?

Father was an emerald but changed into a normal as he got older. Grandfather on the father's side was a normal and grandmother was an emerald.

Very cute little one. Patternless to normal will usually throw an Aberrant Green, meaning reduced or now orange spots. They tend to have dark green spots and light blue dots on a green background.

I'm guessing the father is het for patternless as well so you could possibly throw a patternless in one of the clutches.

There's a fair amount of evidence that the Blue Headed Greens are co-dom's so there's a good chance she will create some aberrant form different from her and the father.

There were 2 eggs left which were knocked out of momma's tube. I kept these last 2 eggs in a clear plastic bowl. I check and tried candling these last 2 eggs and was pretty sure they wouldn't hatch. They looked looked like something was growing in them and died and settled out to the bottom. So today after feeding I went stairs and noticed momma staring at the bowl, when I got closer I saw something move in the bowl. So, one of the dead looking eggs hatched. The baby as the same white tip on it's tail as the first one to hatch as seen in the above pictures. This one wasn't very friendly and didn't want to hang around for picture time.

Update on baby Tokay Geckos

The baby Tokay Gecko pictured in the first post is now 4 months old. This one is always a light green color. I never see it get a dark color. The younger sibling is now 3 months old and is always a darker olive drab color. I have never seen it get a lighter color. The older one has a belly that is all white while the younger one has a belly that is white only on a third of it's belly. Both of them are missing the last few black bands on their tails. One picture show the 2 babies with their mother and the tail of their older sister from last year. The 5th picture has the 3 month old on the left and the 4 month old on the right, she is very shy. The last 2 pictures are of the 4 month old baby.

Very nice group. I'm glad you are having good success with them. It might be interesting to line breed a light male offspring back to the original female to see if the tail recreates itself as well as the lighter look. The reverse can be done later as well with a dark female back to the original male to see how the darker trait increases.

Enjoy.
