Handling/recognition

Does anybody have any experience/ideas when it comes to leopard geckos remembering you?

We've had Eclair for under a week and we wanted to leave her alone until she settled in but unfortunately that was not possible as she managed to climb into our other gecko's tank a couple of times. It's turned into a thing where every time we've had to pick her up, she's absolutely freaked out (no wonder, but we didn't have any choice). She's came from a rather big breeder and it doesn't seem like she's been handled at all before we got her.

Today was tank cleaning day and although she didn't freak out too much, she was very scared. We're fixing all gaps in the tank right now so we won't have to handle her at all the coming week, all I'm gonna do is replace her food and water and spot clean.

I'm wondering if our relationship with her is already ruined because of several unfortunate incidents - or do you think she'll ease up after a while?

To be honest I don't think it will be, I don't believe leos can hold a grudge. The first few times I tried to pick my lil leo up she freaked too, I just left her to be for a few days and then she was fine

The best way to make her more comfortable is place your hand on the bottom of the tank where she can see it for a few mins, without moving or touching her, several times a day. Also, place food in front of her from your hand so she sees where her food and care comes from.

Yeah, that's the way we did it with Donut but it's a little trickier with her because she doesn't go crazy for waxworms like he does. We've used them for coaxing him over to just sit in our hands a little (though no more than twice a week) but she really doesn't care much for them. I know she's eaten one that I left in her dish but she doesn't respond to them at all, whether they're dropped onto the ground or placed in a hand.

We'll see though, she's still tentative about eating since it's less than a week since she arrived :3
