How quickly does prey get swallowed

A week or so ago I thought I saw "black" at that back of Neos mouth. Fearing possible mouthrot, I checked his mouth again about 10-15mins later, and it was clear. Phew!

Last night, after the feeding ritual I once again saw "black" but this time was able to check his mouth just a minute or so later, and noticed that it was the roach in the back of his throat, partially swallowed, but still with the head visible in the throat. roach is only about 20mm

As we have to forcefeed him, I try to get 2-3 roaches done each feeding session, but it can be battle with him - and now wondering if this may be causing him some difficulty if they are not being swallowed straight away. Is it normal for Geckos to take their time to swallow food, or do they normally swallow food immediately after taking it into their mouth?

Edit - just to add...the roach does eventually disappear, but not sure how long it takes him. Probably only a few mins..but that would cause serious disruption in the feeding ritual

Depending on the size of the gecko and the size of the prey it can take awhile especially if the gecko isn't a motivated feeder. You could see if smaller prey items get swallowed any more quickly.
