I just got an adult male crested gecko. When I got him home I put him in his cage and put food and water in there for him so I left him alone. I checked on him about 8 hours after and he freaked out starting running and jumping all over his cage. Is this normal? How should I handle him? I need help in what to do with him??!

can we get a picture of the whole set up? it may be he needs more places to hide in order to feel secure.

also, as much as possible I would leave him alone for at least two weeks. geckos are often very stressed coming into a new home and need time to adjust.

is this the gecko that died?

we need everything about his care, and I mean in very exhaustive detail, to even begin to help figure out what may have happened.

I thought he died. I know sounds crazy. But I really thought he was dead. But apparently he was just in a deep sleep. I tried to wake him up for like 20min then finally he was startled and woke. I have been leaving food in his enclosure because he freaks out when I'm near him so I figured if I put food in he will eat on his own. He has a water dish with water in it 24\7 I also mist him twice a day. I have not handled him since I got him because he is so skittish. I just need some advice as to what to do with him and if I'm doing things wrong and so forth.

He just hides all day. He only comes out at night when all the lights are off in my room I know because I can hear him jumping around and moving in the leaves but as soon as I turn a light on he hides. I have not picked him up yet. Can I? Should I even pick him up and handle him?

nope. don't handle him for at least a few more weeks, even for a little bit. he needs time to settle in.
