Treating Mouthrot?

Hi, I was handling one of my males recently, and discovered a small spot on his lip was stuck and had some gunk on it. It looks like very minor mouthrot, but I want to treat it nonetheless.

I was gently trying to work the gunk out, and discovered that the infection appears to be more in the gums than on his teeth. I'm not sure how to deal with this one. He also bit me pretty badly when I was messing with him, I actually lost consciousness. I'm not sure if I should continue using my hands when cleaning his mouth, or if I should use some sort of tool so I don't get bitten again.

Also, anyone know any good medicine or anything to help? I don't have access to a vet, and even if I did, it's very minor, not worth seeing a vet over. He is one of my favorites though, and I care about his health and want to do everything I can to keep him healthy and make him happy.

Swab it gently with a Q-tip and some saline solution. If it doesn't get better and especially if it gets worse, the gecko will need to see a vet. Although a reptile vet is preferable, it seems to me that a regular vet should be able to consult online and come up with the appropriate antibiotic and dose for your gecko.

I do not have the money to take my gecko to the vet, and I don't trust them. Long story, but I went in for a simple stood test before and they charged me $200.

And I have had geckos with mouthrot before, I cleaned out the infection, provided a more moist and clean environment, and it usually went away after they next shed. Like I said, it is very minor, in fact it may have gone away already. I don't have anything in there that could cause it to get dirty, and I keep their tubs very clean. He's still eating fine, and I'm positive he'll recover from this, I was just wondering if there were anything over the counter I could use. For most cuts I use neosporin (no pain relief) but I know it's not safe for them to eat that so I've refrained from using it to treat mouthrot.

I'll definitely find my mom's stash of q-tips and try using those to clean it out. I've also heard using baby antibiotics (I'll look up dosage) could help, and I'm sure we've got something that would work.
