This was awhile ago and I want to say the poster was in the UK but he would mail fecal samples to a company for analysis. I am not a DVM, dont know if its feasible but had any one read or heard about such services? Sorry for lack of detail I spent a good two hours skimming and scamming for where I thougt I read the post.

I am surprised there are no members with knowledge of such companies. I found a mail order one for Avians in the US, one possibly for herps. Anyone?

I think you could contact veterinary labs and ask if they will take "mail-ins".

there are liability issues involved. I think that's why you don't see this more. I will do my own herps (because I was trained to do these as a public health microbiologist, and I trust that what I can determine is pretty good) but I wouldn't do a fecal for anyone else's pet. I am not a trained veterinary professional and don't want to make a mistake about something so important.

also, some of what you find can be treated at home. most will require a prescription anyways, so why not just go to the vet if you think you have a parasite issue?

I would. I go to my General Practioner every 6 months regardless of symptoms. I would do the same for the gecko. I just would like to cut costs and not bother family members. I dont recall posting being concerned about parasites.

why else would you want to do a fecal sample? they are performed on geckos to determine presence/absence of parasites. I'm not sure what other reason you'd have to do this test?
