I have come to use Flukers Heat Mats after trying so many types over the years. I ran into a problem with the UTH I usually buy (out of stock, dont know when it will be back) I came across a 12 watt 11x11 mat made by R-Petrex. I had heard the name but had no experience with them. They are cheap and I thought I'd try it. Anyone ever use one? I know everyone has their favorite and most dont use Flukers. I was just wondering if anyone knows what temp (without regulation) they generally stay at?

I dont know about that brand, but you could also try ultratherm from bean farm. They offer a lot of different sizes, they are reusable. When i was setting my tank up before I got a leo and before i had a thermostat my tile was getting over 100 degrees.

when I worked in rescue we often took in supplies with animals. I saw something on the order of a dozen different brand names of heat mat, either with my own fosters or others. every single variety has the capacity to malfunction and burn your animals if you don't use a thermostat.

I've treated too many burns (or seen animals die from burns and their complications), in both snakes and geckos, to ever rely on an undertank heat source that isn't regulated.

Thanks for everyone's help. Furthermore I read my original post and couldn't find anything saying I was going to use an un-regulated UTH or put my animal in that type of situation/danger. If anyone knows in general the degree Pet-rex hovers around unregulated (the same size, voltage and construction of this device fits Flukers which maintains 99-100 degrees) it would be greatly appreciated. As for Ultratherm they seem to be very popular. I've owned a few 2 barely put enough heat off to keep the ground temp 85 degrees (even in the enclosure under my substrate which I do with my Fluker's) and the third one was hitting 98 degrees regulated with a Rheostat set on low. Yikes!! Must have been a bad batch, they are very popular and seem to be well constructed.
