Leopard gecko with raw/scraped nose...from carpet burn??

Hello, users.

I am an owner of two leopard geckos, one of which is a 4 month old tangerine named "Cornbread."

As of tonight, I noticed Cornbread's tip of his nose (as you can see in photos below) was getting scraped up. I don't know what the cause is, but I'm guessing it's from having reptile carpet as a substrate. When he lunges at crickets, I think this is what happens. Rug burn.

Immediately worried, I took him out and removed his carpet. I replaced it temporarily with paper towels (which I hope are safe with a UTH beneath his tank).

In fact, the tip of his nose is much more red and fresh than the pictures can show. My poor little boy! :(

Should I give him medication? Ointment? How can I help him heal without picking up infection???

Sorry to hear about Cornbread's nose. I'd just keep the nose clean 24/7. Hopefully he'll heal well.

Some people on GU do NOT recommend any type of ointment because ointments contain petroleum. Silvadene cream or neosporin cream is the substitute, BUT a leo would lick it off his nose.

Good switching to paper towels. They'll be alright above an UTH.
