Did anyone see the ABC News article in yesterday's news about salmonella outbreak in 16 States linked to pet leopard geckos? I guess there was a large outbreak of Salmonella and when they got to looking at the background of all of the cases they found a common link that the people had pet leopard geckos. I had not heard much about leopard geckos carrying salmonella. I know reptiles do and you should always wash your hands before and after handling your pet. so I guess heads up make sure good hygiene is observed when handling our little reptile friends.

it's actually crested geckos. see the CDC article here.

ANY animal that bears eggs can carry Salmonella. while it's not *common* to get Salmonella from reptile pets, it can and does happen. hand hygiene is the key, and is very effective.
