Hi I've never posted on a forum before but thought I'd give it a go!
My friend recently gave me her gecko (think they got bored and they didn't even know what type or how old I had to contact the previous owner to find out!) so basically I know hardly anything about my gecko (rango) I'm following the feeding guidelines given by my friend but I worry that she didn't really know what she was doing either! Anyway my main concern is the fact that rango seems to have changed colour quite a bit, is this normal for cresties? He's tail has got much darker and I noticed today when he was on the glass that he now has black speckles all over his belly! I know they Wernt there before and he's around 2 years old so I am assuming he would be his permanent colour? Sorry if this all sounds really dopey I just wanna do my best for the little fella. He's very scared of me which I can understand but he does try and come out and once or twice has voluntarily got on my hand, other days he heads for his hiding place as soon as I put the light on! I feel bad because I think he doesn't like the light so sometimes I sit in the dark lol! I'm probably being a bit excessive :')
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance :)

Crested geckos change color often depending on mood, temp, etc. It's normal. It's called firing up and firing down. I would do alot of online research. They are relatively easy to care for. If you have any specific questions you can always ask. I would be glad to help.

Ah thanks for getting back to me! I've been googling so much haha thought it would be better talk to gecko owners! My friend told to me to spray everyday with a solution of water mixed with calcium but online there doesn't seem to be any mention of calcium sprays just water on its own, I also worry that getting any spray in his water will harm him! I was also wondering about how much to handle him I really love holding him but he tends to climb off me whenever he can and has pood twice so I don't want to handle him for my own benefit if it stresses him out! Trying to build a bond with him or at least some trust so I don't want to push it and make him scared. Glad to hear the colour change is normal! Thanks :)

Yeah don't spray with calcium water. Just normal water. Get Pangea diets they are nutritionally complete.
I wouldn't handle your gecko for about two weeks so that it can settle in its new home. Once you know it's eating then you can start handling.

Ah okay I'll start doing it with just water then :) thank you! Will defo give them a read, I've found that different websites say different things so it's been confusing me a little (not hard lol)

Hello! I saw that in your post you said that your gecko is afraid of you. Don't worry! Some times geckos just have to get used to you! start out by just putting your hand in the cage for a week or two and let your gecko see and smell you. Next let your gecko crawl towards your hands and gently touch your gecko and eventually slowly pick your gecko up.

That's perfectly normal! Geckos can "fire up" and down depending on their mood/temperature/humidity/etc.. even if they're irritated or excited! They can go from one color to a completely different one! Your gecko looks fine, those patches on the belly are normal.
