No crickets to feed!

The petsmarts near me have both received frozen and dead crickets, and I'm unsure of their next delivery. I heard Tuesday for one, so that's good but now I only have small mealworms. I gave my gecko two yesterday since I was low, and six today. Is six too much? I know that they're fatty, so I don't want him to eat too much. Please help, and thanks for reading~

Mealworms will be fine until they can get some circkets that are not Popsicle's or dead. I usually feed my adult around 10 mealworms or 6 mealworms and 2 wax worms.

Is your leo full grown, juvenile, or younger? Adults really don't eat every day anyway, even juveniles can skip a few days or more without a problem. I would not suggest trying to match the normal feeding mass of crickets with that of mealworms, it's better to cut back on total food than to try to replace a good food like crickets with a mediocre one like mealworms.

Okay, thanks. Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that my Leo is a juvenile. Thanks for the help guys!

Hopefully you'll get some crickets soon. While your juvenile leo can easily go without food for several days, it may be tough to get it to start eating again when food is available. It's good that you have some mealworms to keep it interested in food, but crickets will be so much better when you can get them.

There isn't many places near me too get feeders from, closest is 45 min drive. To save my self the gas money and the chance that they're out of crickets when I get there I've decided to order 500 at a time offline. Keeping fingers crossed they'll be not frozen and lively when they arrive in next couple days. It may be an option for you also if your leos prefer crickets. Sorry it won't help you instantly but it may be a way too prevent it from happening again. Russ

You can try to keep turkestan roaches. They are just as big as crickets are and maybe even more nutritious. They don't die and you can keep them in a very small enclosure. I got mine in a small beta cube, there is about 250 of them. Yeah... I know, it is a bit inhumane.. but what the hell, they are roaches.
