I use the same heat bulb for my geckos. I have the same problem, heat mat just dose not provide enought heat int the winter here. Ironically i have not head sources going for them at the moment because its to hot. Anyways, yes the bulb works good.

What is your substrate and how (and where) are you measuring heat? If you're doing that correctly you may be able to increase heat delivery by taping aluminum foil under the UTH so the UTH is sandwiched between the foil and the bottom of the tank.

I also put something under the tank heater to keep heat in, and it increases the overall tank temperature to fantastic levels :) I use newspaper, my tanks are on wire shelves so the insulation is very helpful.

I also was recently advised by my vet that the bright and blue tinted lights and believed to cause some stress to geckos. I had been using blue at night. Just sharing what I have learned! I'm now waiting for a sale and going to instead use ceramic heat emitters to give supplemental heat from the top. I have a gecko that seems prone to stress so decreasing bright light will hopefully be helpful for her. After all my research ceramic seems to be the way to go. They seem to be more long lasting and tougher than light bulbs.
