New Leo, name suggestions?

Hey I have a new leopard gecko and I need a name for the little guy. He is male, and a possible Het Bell apparently (that's what the container I bought him in said). I got him from GeckosEtc at the Reptile Super Show in San Diego and he appears healthy. He is very shy when I go to put my hand in his tank and avoids me at all costs... :-( But I still need a name for him so please give me suggestions! He is an adult. He hasn't eaten yet and like I said is not very keen on me handling him, but I plan to try later in this month, hopefully soon. He likes to stay under this one grape vine log thing and is fairly active at night. I have him on sand but I am going to switch to play sand hopefully soon but haven't yet due to the fact he's new and I don't want to scare him or make him feel insecure. Anyways, he hasn't been eating anything and I haven't seen him eating it. Sorry if the whole sand thing gets you angry but I plan to NOT get him impacted. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Hi ~

Geckos Etc = Steve Sykes?

No one wants their leo to become impacted. Calcium-based sand is something you definitely want to stay away from. I don't recommend particulate/sand substrates for newbies at all. There are just too many variables at first.

As far as I know all play sand is composed of sharp silica crystals. No matter the size of the crystals, these crystals pack together. Jurassic Sand is composed of rounded quartz crystals.

Leos actually can see red light. If you need extra heat from above, I suggest a ceramic heat emitting bulb (CHE). If you wish some additional details, I can point you in the right direction.

Yes, Steve. Thank you. I read that the leopard geckos from Geckos Etc (Where I bought him) use this play sand: Quikrete 50 lb. Play Sand 111351 at The Home Depot - Mobile they say there have been no problems with it. I do have carpet however. Like a fool I bought the sand, thinking it was good because the person at the pet store said so. I was aware of Impaction then, but trusted them. :-( I am going to try to get a new thermometer, thermostat, and remove the sand ASAP. I will not use the red light either. Thanks for the help and believe it or not I did research before this but it's all pretty much jumbled into different opinions.

Also, do you think an Exo Terra Night Glo bulb would work? It's a blue-ish purple light and people say it's visible but a little dimmer, and it imitates the moon. The reason why I would want a bulb like this is because I want a night-light-ish type thing for my Leo. Not exactly for viewing, but because I will need some light that won't affect my Leo too much at night, as my sister is a pain and needs a light so she can go to the bathroom (His tank is in our bathroom, it's actually fairly quiet and nice in there). I personally can find my way through the dark but I'm afraid she will turn on the normal light at night like she's done 2 times before (Luckily it was around day time so he wasn't that disturbed). Still, yikes! I don't want my Leo to be scared in the night due to a normal bulb being turned on! Anyways, do you think a 25 watt Exo Terra Night Glo bulb would work and not disturb my Leo? I have a 12" x 12" x 30" 20 gallon tank. I am not sure if you would know but I thought I'd ask. Thank you for everything!
