20 gallon tank for baby Leopard gecko

Hello,

I am currently assembling a 30 inch x 15 inch terrarium to house one leopard gecko. I was wondering if it is practical and safe to house a baby gecko in this environment given that all necessities (heat mat, two hides (ill most likely make three), calcium bowl, water bowl, mixed diet of mealworms and dusted crickets, pure calcium and Vitamin D3, reptile carpet as substrate etc.) are provided. I have heard differing opinions regarding this issue. Some people say such a large environment may be stressful but others say that it should be fine to keep baby leos in larger enclosures.

Anyways hope to hear some of your views on this. I'm still considering whether or not to by an adult or baby, but if the baby would be stressed in a 20 gallon environment i may have to go with the former.

It kind of depends on the gecko. I've done it without problems. If you're going to be feeding mealworms, put the dish close to the warm hide so it's easy for the gecko to find them. If you feed crickets, consider, at feeding time, using something to make the space smaller so it's easier to find the crickets (try without doing this first and see if it will run after them throughout the enclosure.
