Low fat bugs?

Hello everyone! My Leo, Norbert is having some pooping issues. I was wondering if there were any low fat bugs that I could feed Norbert? I read somewhere that high fat bugs are more likely to cause weird poop.
Mealworms are high in fat, right?:yikes:

Okay! I have a big bin full of them. Are there any worms that are low fat? Norbert seems to prefer them over the crickets. :)

Hornworms are low fat. They are high moisture and a good calcium source. They can be offered once in a while and can be lightly dusted with plain calcium carbonate.

  • Approximate nutritional content of hornworms (source Mulberry Farms)
    • Protein: 9%
    • Fat: 3%
    • Calcium: 46.4mg/100mg
    • Calcium : phosphorus ratio is 1:3
    • Moisture: 85%

Are hornworms the really big, greenish blueish, worms? Could I find them at a normal pet store? Thank you!!
You're welcome.

Hornworms are turquoise worms. Norbert might love a couple very small ones.

It all depends upon the pet store. Hornworms grow HUGE in just a couple days if you do not keep them about 55 F.

Okay! :) yes, that is what I thought they were. Are they like a treat to leopard geckos? Thank you so much for private messaging me! I will take that into consideration and try not to post information I may have heard elsewhere. I would love to do something with reptiles when I grow up, so do you have any tips on becoming more experienced?

Hornworms can be a "treat" for leopard geckos. They are very nutritious! :) Waxworms are very fatty. :(

It's very important to share information carefully. All reptile vitamins and supplements are different. Husbandry problems (MBD, yellow/orange urates, tough sheds, and so on) call for different solutions.

One of either two kinds of calcium is commonly added to calcium + D3 and multivitamins (with and without D3): pure precipitated calcium carbonate OR oyster shell calcium carbonate. Oyster shell calcium carbonate is a light grey colored calcium. That's the kind found in Rep Cal's calcium with D3.

Here are some ways to increase your experience and have fun. :)
  • Join a Herpetological Society. Herp Societies do outreaches that you could be part of.
  • Join Girl Scouts or a youth group to share your enthusiasm.
  • Volunteer with reptiles at a zoo.
  • Do a science project about reptiles.
  • Read some of my Leopard Gecko Caresheet.
