Gecko with calcium deficiency not eating

I have had my leopard gecko for about a year. I have been dusting her food with calcium every four feedings (I now know this is not enough) so she developed a slight bend in her legs. I was not to worried because I though I would just dust with calcium every day this helped and the bend in one leg went away then she went on a food strike and it came back should I be worried? If so what should I do.

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited!

How old is your leo? Please share a video of her walking.

What exact brand of calcium are you using? Does it contain vitamin D3? Is it also an all-in-one multivitamin?

In order for calcium to be absorbed it must contain vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 needs to be taken with food.

Please share pictures of your leo and of her enclosure. That way we can help better. :)

She is about a year old now I am using miner-all and reptivite it contains 4400 I.U of d3 per kilo. She is eating now but still worried about the slight bend in her front legs. Not sure how to post a picture or video

Posting Photos/Videos...inline or attached
Click: vBulletin FAQ
  • To insert a video find 3 lines of choices at the top where you make a post. On the second line, 15 icons in from the left, you'll see a video icon. It looks like a ladder. Post your video URL right there. A picture and arrow like you may have noticed here will be displayed, not just a link.
  • To insert a photo use the "image" icon close to the "ladder" icon.
    • Click: Go Advanced under the reply box
    • Then click: Manage Attachments
    • Find pictures from your computer and upload them (after uploading your photos/video to a free Imgur account)
    • Grab the link they provide
    • Then click "insert image url" OR "insert video url"
    • Then paste & share
Imgur offers free online sites for sharing photos.

I would not use both miner-all and reptivite. I prefer Zoo Med's Reptivite as the multivitamin.
  • Do you have Zoo Med's Repti Calcium or Zoo Med's Reptivite multivitamins? with or without D3?
  • Since vitamin D3 is fat soluble, it sticks around in a gecko's body and should only be taken @ 1 feeding per week.
  • For a summary of those products (and others) click: Gecko Multivitamins

For me (and many other leos) Zoo Med's products contain just the right amount of D3 (the minimum) @ 22,907 IU/kg. Miner-All @ 4,400 IU/kg is just too little D3.

I suggest switching to this schedule.

Weekly Schedule for Leopard Geckos 12 months old & under
tweaked August 2017

Crickets or dubia >> Monday - lightly dusted with Zoo Med Repti Calcium with D3
Mealworms >> Tuesday
Crickets or dubia >> Wednesday - lightly dusted with precipitated calcium carbonate without D3
Crickets or dubia >> Thursday
Crickets or dubia >> Friday - lightly dusted with Zoo Med ReptiVite multivitamins without D3
Mealworms >> Saturday
No food or free choice >> Sunday

Future weeks:
Continue on since all weeks are identical. . . . . .

You're welcome. I always love updates. :)

Just to confirm: Did you buy Zoo Med's Repti Calcium without D3 to complement your Miner-all Indoor?
