Superworm snacks?

My crested gecko eats a staple of Pangea cgd with crickets and fruit (always calcium dusted) as occasional treats. Recently my mantis died and now I'm left with a tub of superworms and nothing to feed them to. I thought maybe I'd start giving them occasionally until I'm out, so I offered a freshly molted one to my gecko (was a bit concerned about the tough exoskeleton) and he loved it so much he bit my finger afterwards... probably thought it was another worm, lol.

I was just wondering, does anyone have any experience or advice about giving these to cresteds? Is it safe to feed them regularly (twice a month at the most)? He took a big dump a few days later, so it seems he digested it fully.

I think feeding them twice a month is okay. However these are not the best feeders. Are you sure you aren't feeding superworms that are too big? Feed worms that are as big as the space between the widest part of their crests. They do have a tendancy to bite so be cautious your Crestie isn't bit. Also make sure that the worms are freshly molted.

To be on the safe side, you could sell them or bring them to a friend or reptile expo? I am sorry for the loss of your mantis.

I have successfully fed super worms to 14 gram leopard geckos so I imagine they wouldn't be a problem for an adult crestie.

Others may disagree, but in my opinion, if super worms work well as staple food for leopard geckos, why not as occasional food for cresties? I usually try things that seem reasonable and watch the results carefully to decide if I should keep it up. If it makes you nervous, don't do it.
