decorations for tank

Hi,

Just joined to get more info on crested geckos. My 12 yr old son has been asking for a gecko for over a year now. We've been holding off on getting one to make sure it wasn't just a passing interest and also doing tons of research. He is getting the crested gecko supplies for Christmas, and after Christmas we are hoping to find a crested gecko to rehome/adopt or find a breeder.

So here is my first question that I can't seem to find an answer to online - can you put aquarium decorations in a crested gecko tank? I'm talking about the statue type things. My son was eyeing up an aquarium castle and some other decorations. I'm assuming it wouldn't be toxic if meant for an aquarium, but would it be dangerous as far as injuries to the gecko? I think my son wants to "theme" the tank in addition to all the vines, plants, climbing stuff the gecko needs. I'm also a diy/crafty kind of gal, so if aquarium decorations are a no-no, I'd be up for ideas on decorations to make that are safe. What I'm seeing online if mainly background/nature looking stuff. Since he's a 12 yr old boy, I think he's looking for a "cool" factor in the tank.

Thanks!

aquarium decor is fine. when you're planning the overall setup, just make sure he has lots of vertical cover. a crested gecko in a hide on the bottom of the tank is a stressed out gecko.

Thanks! I was worried about the decorations being too rough, knobby, etc. Good to know you don't think it will be a problem. We will have all the appropriate cover and climbing the gecko needs too. I'll probably be back with more questions as we move forward!
