How often give Vitamin D3?

Okay so I am very confused...
I now have calcium powder with D3, calcium powder without D3, and Herptivite multivitamin,
I dust with the non-D3 calcium every feeding, and the Herptivite every 4-5th feeding, so... where do they get the vitamin D3? Do I need to use the D3 calcium? Thanks!

Yes, since UVB is not typically used with leopard geckos, you need to supplement with vitamin D3. Depending on how often you're feeding and what type of calcium supplement you're using, you'll want to use the D3 calcium more often than the non-D3. Overdosing on D3 is harder to do than many people make it out to be, but a safe practice is to replace the D3 calcium with plain calcium once a week.

Elizabeth Freer has a more detailed supplement schedule on here somewhere. She's a regular contributor to the leopard gecko forums, so she should be here soon.

For my Leo I usually dust with D3 every feeding and then herptivite once a week. D3 is very important since it gives Leos the uvb that they usually get in the wild. Think of it as a replica of the sun almost. I keep a small amount of regular calcium in a milk cap in his enclosure so he always has access to it :)

Using calcium with vitamin D3 more than at 1 feeding per week is overkill and could be harmful! I recommend switching from Herptivite to Zoo Med's Reptivite multivitamins without D3.

Vitamin D3 is fat soluble. It sticks around in a gecko's body and shouldn't be consumed at every feeding.
