Shedding/Eye Problems

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I recently took in a leopard gecko that was severely mistreated by her previous owner. She's very malnourished and had a shed stuck on her whole body for over a month. I misted her every once in a while over the last 48 hours and have gotten her to shed everywhere but her head, but it seems to be stuck there and her eyes are now closed shut and she has sores under both eyes. Her right eye has also been bulging out and wide open since before I took her in, almost as if she's blind. Any advice for this new gecko owner? I've had a beardie for over a year now but he's had no issues like this

I was in the same situation as you! The only thing you can do is take her to the vet. The vet will give you a prescription ointment called terramycin, which you will have to apply twice a day to each eye. Hopefully the eyes should then open up, but it is likely that she will have an infection underneath, like mine did. You will then take her back to the vet after her eyes open to get them looked at. If her eyes are white-ish and large, then she probably has infectious caps over her eyes that will need to get popped out. After the vet pops them out, she should hopefully regain her eyes sight within a few weeks. I hope this was helpful, as this is what happened to my rescue as well. Get her to the vet ASAP. The vet should also give you some wet dog food and a calcium supplement to feed him since she cant see to hunt. With this, you will have to mix the supplement and dog food until it becomes soupy and drop it on her nose with a dropper. It is a natural instinct for them to lick their nose when something touches it, so this is how she will have to eat, unless the vet teaches you a way to force-feed her. Can you upload some pics so I can see what the eyes look like? I hope this is helpful as my gecko was in the same situation and this is the process I went through :) This is what mine looked like when I first got him, is it similar?

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately it looks like she didn't close her eye when the shed started, and her entire eye is covered in shed skin. I have her in bed now so I can't take a photo, but I'm going to call and get her in to the vet tomorrow if I can. I'm afraid whatever the previous owner did to her might have blinded her in that eye but hopefully the vet can do something to ease her discomfort
