Was Given a Young Pregnant Gecko: Eggbound?
Hi everyone,
I recently was given a leopard gecko from a friend who no longer wanted her. She had two geckos and had already given the other one to someone else. When I brought the gecko home I was having trouble getting her to eat, I have tried just about everything I could think to do. Her tail has shrunken quite a bit as well. At first I thought this could just have been from the stress of rehoming, however, now that it has been quite some time I have figured that is not the case. My friend had her geckos on loose substrate, so the next thing I thought of was being impacted. To check this I tried to turn her over and see if I could see a dark mass in her stomach. Instead of finding a dark mass, I have found an egg. It seems that there is only one egg, however I have had her for a few weeks. I am worried that she is too small to have been bred and that she may be egg bound. Her stomach area is very distended and you can lightly feel the egg in her stomach. I have also found a gooey milky substance coming from her vent area. Today when picking her up, instead of finding the goo she dripped a milky water from her vent. I have a lay box in her tank which has coco fiber in it. I mist it down to keep it moist when it begins to dry up. I have not seen any signs of her getting ready to lay. I am getting very nervous about her and am not sure what to do. I have also tried soaking her in warm water to see if that will help her to lay, but so far without success. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
