Stuck shed on tail?

So I am in a very sticky situation. I have recently rescued a juvenile leopard gecko with a regenerating tail. I only got him about a week ago, and I can tell he is not very healthy, as he had a really bad shed, coming off in pieces and ripping easily. He got quite a bit stuck on his regenerating tail, and I am not sure how to take it off, it is pretty stuck and I do not want him to drop it again! I have put some mineral oil on it last night, but it is sill pretty stuck. And you know babies, very skittish! Any ideas on how I can safely take it off? Thanks!

Soak the gecko in about 1/2" of water (you can put a little water in the sink and let the gecko stand there). Hold the gecko on your stomach and put a fold of your shirt over its head (now it thinks it's hiding). Use your fingernails to strip off the shed from the tail. They don't drop their tails as readily as people think, so this will most likely work well.
