Terrarium Makeover

hey, I would like to redo my terrarium and would like suggestions on hides and other decor you liked, I will be keeping the tile, I would like it with some plants and kind of a jungle theme, I will use fake plants to keep humidity down. here is what I have,( these were taken with a flashlight to get some light )

Is the terrarium located right in front of a window?

You can use coconut halves for hides. Pet stores usually carry those, or you can get them online.

I was also going to ask about the window. If it gets direct sunlight, your gecko will fry, the glass will make it too hot in the tank. Can you move it to another part of the room with indirect sunlight?

The pet stores carry background clings that you can add for some extra "scenery". If you can't find it in the reptile section, check the aquarium section. I always like a little greenery for color in a tank, so I would some foliage and maybe a fake flower or two, just for some extra color.

yes, some light does come in the window but the warm side has never gotten above 92 because the thermostat turns of at 91, the cool side is usally 72-75, I don't really think a coconut hide would look good on tile unless I cover it in vines.

I think the rock ledges and rocks that you have in there are good, it just needs some foliage for color. Fake cactus or succulents? If you are looking for another hide, again, I would check the aquarium section of your local pet store; they have rock-ledge type hides that look good in desert settings as well. I recently saw a neat wild west setting that incorporated a cattle skull (or imitation skull) that looked pretty cool, and provided an option for a hide.

do you reccomend any brands for hides or decor? I have been thinking about getting a peice of driftwood for her tank and taking some rocks out. the thing that bothers me is how flat my tank looks, do you think a background would help?:biggrin:

I don't know of a particular brand, but for foliage, try going to arts/crafts stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael's. I've gotten a lot of my foliage at thrift shops (& rinsed well in hot water). Personally, I like the background clings. They're removable and pretty easy to apply, and just add so much visual appeal, rather than just a plain glass back. Petsmart and Petco both carry them, or you can buy them online from Amazon.

I think driftwood would look great in your tank. It's not too humid, so it shouldn't mold as it would in my crestie's tank. What about some decorations like this one at Petsmart - they have several sizes that are similar if this one is too pricey; I like these because they are not sharp, so nothing to cut your leo's skin - and they wash easily:

Thanks so much, those all look pretty, do you know if the plants are bendy or stiff? also are they sharp?

As I said before I think my tank looks small and way to open, I know that my moist hide makes it look pretty bad. I think I need to scoot my stuff out from the back, and I need to elavate my stuff like putting up a background, getting taller hides, getting some clings, and maybe putting up a hammock, do you need a ladder for the hammock? I would like for it to be kind of high.

The plants attached to the resin are plastic, so I think they're bendy.

I don't have a ladder in my tanks, but you would probably need one if you're going to place it up high, unless you position it near something he can climb on to get up there.

Read the review. It’s seems like the medium is a good size. Our Leo has the Zoo med 3 in one shelter, but I like the fact that this one has the entrance lower making it easier for your Leo to find.

I have this hide but it does not have a bottom, could I still use it as a moist hide?
