Is this normal??

Just put some mealworms in the tank for my giant day gecko. This is the first time I've seen him/her go right to the bowl and eat them....he's upside down with his tail hanging down...is that normal? Also he doesn't seem to like or go after crickets. Are mealworms sufficient?
And can you tell me if it's male or female?

Hopefully the pics show up...

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited! I've never kept giants, but I do keep Phelsuma barbouri.

Please google "flop tail in Phelsuma day geckos". See whether that sounds like what you're seeing. Have you diagonal perches like bamboo as well as horizontal perches?

I would not depend upon mealworms all the time. Consider using a respected prepared dry diet you mix with water some of the times like Pangea's complete all-in-one diets.

What size is your enclosure?

Are you providing UVB?
