Heating pad size?

Hello again!
My leopard gecko order came (from reptilesupplyco.com, I strongly recommend them)! I got the 11 by 17 heat mat as recommended for my 20L. When I taped the mat down, it looks like it covers closer to 2/3 of the aquarium, it leaves only about 11 inches for the cool end. I am still waiting for the mat to heat up so I’m not sure what temperature the cool end will read but I’ll update the thread in a couple hours if needed. But does the mat take up too much space? I want to make sure my leopard gecko has the correct temperature gradient!
Any help is appreciated, thank you :)

Have you a thermostat?

A 20 long enclosure = 30 x 12 x 12 inches high. Snug up one end of the heat mat right against one side wall. Then 30 - 17 = 13 inches remainng for the cool end. Heat drops off rather quickly almost right off the mat. Even 11 inches of cool space is plenty for your leo to thermoregulate.

Yes I have a thermostat set to 90 degrees! The mat stays between 88 and 91 degrees and the cool end stays between 75 and 77. Thank you so much for the help! I’ll probably move the heat mat a little closer to the side :)
