Hey guys,
I have no pressing health issues I'm worried about, I'm just trying to get a good gauge for what other people have seen/what is normal. My gecko is a female, a couple years old (3-4), and she always gets pretty funky in the spring. This is my third spring with her. I know I should expect it, but it still freaks me out!
Stuff I see:
No appetite. She might eat a big roach every other week, for a few months. I offer food every couple days, she clearly sees it, but doesn't want it. She still poops a tiny poop every few days.
Very little weight loss. She can go 2 months without eating, and lose less than 10 grams. (She's nearly a giant, so we're talking about going from 110g to 100g over three months).
Weird behavior. Towards the end of the spring she gets really active, even during the day. Some wall-surfing, but also just really marching around, climbing every surface she can. She's not exhausting herself, but she's definitely not keeping to her "normal" hours.
I've never bred her. She has some fatty pocket things that I thought were eggs at first, but they're soft and have been for months, so I think she's just chubby.
I'm keeping all her temps normal, always having water and calcium without D3 sitting out, etc. I don't change anything about how I keep her during the spring.
I'm just wondering if other people have similar experiences. I haven't really seen anything online about what kind of behavior is common for females during this season. I'm trying not to worry until she loses weight or shows other symptoms, but I always do get a bit nervous this time of year, and I just want a bit of reassurance! Is there a good way of knowing when all this will end? Seems like every year she's picking a different start and end time!
