I received my new leopard gecko on Wednesday morning and he arrived in the box with his tail dropped. So on top of acclimating to a new environment and new owner, he now has the added stress of losing his tail. This is my first reptile ever so this is baptism by fire. His tail looks pretty clean. It's pink except for one part that's bright red, where it was bleeding when it happened. He also peed/pooped in the container he was in so that probably got in his wound during shipping. Hopefully that doesn't infect it. He spends a lot of time in his humid hide but he's been out at times too. I got him to eat 1 wax worm yesterday, but he's refusing to eat so far today. I worry about that the most because without a tail hasn't his need for food has gone up? He also seems more active during the day when he should be sleeping, like his clock is backwards. He has a shallow dish of water and of calcium carbonate. I don't want to keep the worms in his dish because they can crawl out and don't want them all over his terrarium. I have meal worms and wax worms for him. I suppose it's good he isn't constantly hiding and he doesn't run from me when I open the terrarium to try and feed him. He just moves his head away from the worms I offer ( i use long feeding tongs). But I worry about his refusing food w/out a tail. Any tips on helping a leo with a tail drop or to help him eat? Thanks!
