Leo Emergency!!!

my concern is with the heat and the food source. I personally use 95F on the hot side and feed 7-10 gut loaded crickets every 2 to 3 days supplementing with minerall, rotating in roaches, waxworms, and phoenix worms. This may be time for a vet visit, if this is metabolic bone disease then its gonna need some vet meds like some calcium gluconate or something of simmilar effect.

Aretwodetwo ~

Two digital thermometers sound good. That gives you opportunities for frequent monitoring and takes the guesswork out as long as the thermometers are accurate.

Crickets and roaches are, by far, the most nutritious bugs for your gecko.

No phosphorous in your leo's calcium or vitamins---that is really good!
? phosphate -- don't know how closely related they are. Anybody out there?? Will try to find out. Thanks for checking the label.

I heat my leo's 20 gallon long with an over-the-tank incandescent fixture at one end. Don't have any experience heating with UTH. Have heard that UTH is more efficient. Low to mid 90s is fine for the warm end.

Are your leo's legs and arms still trembling as he walks?

Phosphorous is tied to the lack of calcium absorption. If metabolic bone disease is the problem, the calcium syrup (calcium glubionate) can probably be ordered from your local pharmacy without a prescription. It is a human-grade supplement. I think it only comes in pints.

Hi aretwodetwo ~

Noted in reviewing this thread that someone posted that Zoo Med's Reptivite vitamins may not contain calcium? Is that true?

I like Rep Cal's calcium and vitamin supplements.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you are looking for a 2:1 calcium to phosphourous ratio one calcium to bond with waste for forming calcium urate and the rest of the left overs for absorbtion. Phosphate is PO4 its phosphourous bonded to oxygen. Thats all i got for you on that :)

I am glad to hear that her legs and the arms have stopped trembling!

This is what I like: Rep-Cal Phosphorous-Free Calcium with Vitamin D3 (ultrafine powder) and Rep-Cal Herptivite with Beta Carotene Multivitamins. These can be ordered at The Bean Farm. I don't use the multivitamins too often.

You can get a colony of roaches online to breed. Do a google search. Also check the GU classifieds. B. dubia are nice because they do not climb glass, but another GU member told me that he has seen the roaches use the geckos as a bridge from their feeding dish to the vivarium beyond. :( Lateralis are a fast-moving roach.

(I'm not so sure I like the "roach" idea, but roaches are supposed to be very nutritious.)

What kind of basking area are you thinking of? Could not access your link. The basking spot could just be a stable layer of rocks.

You don't want your gecko sleeping directly on top of the UTH.

Well i have a 20 gallon long so the cage is a foot tall.

And it has four branches that span each 6 inches in length.

It is a foot long in total and is about 7 and a half inches from tip to base.

It is also not really wood... it is a ceramic material.

Covered in a poly resin paint.

With also a couple holes at the base big enought for her to easily explore with out

getting stuck.

Oh... and im building a second level out of...

Metal s clips

Suction cups

Sanded edged plastic

covered by a layer of repti turf.

Whoo... :D

Whoo hoo! Having fun?

Hi ~

My replies in green.

So for the calcium: Item display at Underbid.com You want the pink-label ULTRAFINE calcium with D3. It sticks to bugs better.

And the multivitamin: HERPTIVITE Multivitamin for reptiles and amphibians (3.2 oz) at Underbid.com Yes!

You can also buy some kind of heavy duty magnetic hides which fasten to the glass so you can watch her "hiding". Never tried this. Sorry I can't be more specific about a brand and all.
Whoo... :D

When can you post a picture of her cage? Can't wait to see it!

Well heat is better off coming from the bottom for Leos.
If it is ONLY coming from the top, than a tall or semi-tall tank would make your job much more difficult, as they are not climbers, and to get to the heat they need , they would need to climb. The bigger they are, the harder it will be for them to climb something skinnier than they are because they don't have the grip needed for their feet to clamp on sideways.

Make sense? :p

Hi ~

message below

Well... sadly I dont have a camera. :(

But im only 12 so what can i do :D You're doing fine for someone who is 12! Remember that! Maybe you could get a camera for your birthday or Christmas?

and you mean this? Rep-Cal Calcium with Vitamin D3 (4.1 oz) Ultrafine Powder at Underbid.com That's it exactly. What does the shipping run from underbid.com? I'm curious.

And would it Be better to put the basking tree directly below the heat lamp or to the

side? I can't envision the basking tree you speak of. Leos really don't climb trees or glass or ceramic because they have claws and not "suction-cup" like toes, actually cilia on their toes. So they like broad substantial things on which to climb.

And if i was to get a water fall which would i get? Save the waterfall for your mourning gecko tank :nana:---another project!

Cant be over 6 1/2 inches tall...

Hi ~

Happy Belated Birthday! (September 6 is only two weeks ago.)

Have you named your leo? How old is she?

Got the picture of the branches this time around. Since you already have it you can experiment with different placements. Next time you're at the beach you might be able find some driftwood to try. Solid climbing platforms will work.

Study hard, but play too.

Well my birthday passed on September 6 so... but i wanted to spend my money on my

gecko because she actually needs something. :D

Heres another link this time its a picture:

Pet Supplies - Online Pet Supply, Pet Products & Accessories at PETCO

il post in a little while if this will be a good cage setup (i have to go to school) :D
