i am going to do definitely get a crested gecko at the westchester county reptileexpo

i might not get a glass cage. i might get a reptarium. i will use a ir heat lamp or che. i have some questions about the reptarium and other things though.

1 how does the thermometer/hygrometer stay on or how do you place it/them without falling?
2 is coco fiber / eco-earth a good substrate?i will feed crickets by bowl
3 are hatching better then juvenile crested geckos? which are more adaptable?
4 if i get a reptarium cage which is better 22 gallon tall or 30 gallon tall for juvenile, if i get a hatchling ill keep in a cricket keeper until it/he/she gets bigger
5 is cgd and baby food as treat with the occasional live feeder a good diet?
6 i happen to live near a florist-gardening shop, and i will stop by later. but what are some nice looking, easy and safe plants for crested geckos?
7 lastly does anyone anything to recommend that i might have missed?

I am wondering how you will provide the required humidity for a crestie in a totally screen cage? Seems like low humidity would be an ongoing problem with a cage like that? An Exo-terra or some other brand tall cage would be a good choice.

I see no problem with screen cages. We keep all our adult & sub-adults in screen cages and all the babies & juvies in glass. Just mist heavy at night and then a light misting in the morning. The only time we have issues with humidity and needed to use a humidifier to help keep at proper levels is in the winter when the furnace it running.

Hopefully this will help:
1 - The thermometer/hygrometer I have has a magnetic back so it sticks to the metal screen.
2 – I use eco earth coco fiber substrate for all my juvies and adults with no problems. We feed crickets outside the enclosure so no risk of impaction from accidental ingestion of substrate.
3 – All our geckos adapt rather quickly to their new set-up…from upgrading from large kritter keeper to 10g, then up to their permanent enclosure.
4 – If you just plan on having a single, then either size is fine….if you want a pair or trio, then go for the larger.
5 – CGD should be the main diet, dusted crickets on occasion if you want…but no baby food. If you want to offer a treat, Rapashy has a fruit mix that is a balanced treat. It’s just like the CGD but a little sweeter.
6 – Just make sure to wash the leaves, branches and roots, plant in organic soil prior to putting them in the enclosure. (Fertilizer used on the plants at store or nurseries can kill geckos…even if they say organic, I’d wash them to be safe.)
