I see. So only half of your tank is tile? And what do you do for daily maitenance for your tile? Do you clean it weekly? I'm just hesitant because I don't want the UTH to heat up the tile to the point where it's burning and she gets burned. Would a repti carpet help this?

This is why you shoud use a thermostat or dimmer switch to regulate the temperature so that it doesn't fluctuate so much.
I just clean up any poop whenever I see it, which is usually every 2 or so days that she poops. :)

A digital thermometer or a heat gun (see caresheet for links) is the only accurate way to measure the temperature. The thermostat (temperature controller) turns off once the temperature reaches a preset level (93 F).

You can just pick up the poop, replace the small section of paper toweling that you have laid atop the rest of the paper towels or slate, and/or wipe the slate with a 10% vinegar solution (not toxic), and carry on.

I would start with just a single leo in a 20 gallon long tank (30 inches long). If you decide to begin with 2 leos, both should be sexable, females, and very close to the same size. Otherwise you could end up with 2 males, and you don't want to go there. If your leos come from different sources, quarantine is recommended.

I'll be sure to post ASAP once they are home with me. First priorities are to get the tank set up and make sure proper temps are stable and right humidity to reduce stress.

So I have my hides all in the tank, some plants, and a water bowl. I know I need a UTH, a red bulb, a calcium(no D3!)/food dish, some moss for moist hide, a screen top, cricket holder, cricket food/water, and vitamins for gutloading. Am I missing anything? Also need tiles ahah

You don't NEED a red light bulb unless the temp is too low. Also, the vitamins shoul be powder and are used to dust the feeders. Gutloading is different. :)

You will need a bulb whether it's red, white or blue in order to achieve the correct temperature gradient. There is no way to get 77 on the cool side~ 85 air temp in warm side with just a UTH. Without a bulb you will not have a gradient. The whole tank air temp will be the room temp.

Hey, you are doing great :)!

You may have posted this somewhere else: What size tank have you?

You need 100% pure calcium for a small dish inside the tank 24/7, phosphorus-free calcium with D3 to lightly dust the feeders with no more than 2x per week, and a multivitamin to lightly dust the feeders with no more than 1x per week. Do NOT feed these supplements to your crickets. With the exception of the pure calcium dish in the tank 24/7, the two other supplements are for lightly dusting your crickets, but only as recommended.

A medium Kritter Keeper will be fine for the crickets. Layer 2 sections of egg cartons with a paper towel on top. For moisture I just spray the paper towel every other day or if it is above 80 F in the room, spray every day. One sure way to get stinky crickets is to provide too much moisture for them.

Have you found my recommendations for the size of your UTH in my caresheet? Find my advice before you buy. The UTH should occupy 1/3 the length of the tank and be nearly the same width.

Why are are heat rocks dangerous? Why don't they just jump off the heat rock when they feel it's getting too hot? Because their thermoreceptors are located in the hypothalmus. The hypothalmus is where? Up top in their head. So by the time the signals reach the head it's too late and they are burned. So they are only receiving a tiny bit of heat that comes off the floor. They do not have internal metabolic mechanisms for maintaining their body temperature from within.

The OP said they were getting a UTH. Obviously the ydon't create their own heat, they're ectothermic.

What is the troll your friend or your other side. God that's why she gets aggravated with some people. They don't understand anything. You didn't get the point I guess. She tries to tell people for the benefit of your geckos and instead of being greatful, people get upset. She is a very simple person and does not like to brag and trust me she can. Some people are so ungreatful. When you have 30 years of experience with reptiles and all the years of schooling than maybe you can debate. Your first gecko and already you think you know it all. Sorry not even close. I am sorry Elizabeth and the admin, but she does not deserve for people to act like this. I know she is going to be upset with me but I know she would not have defended herself.
