Samantha, my aunt called and told me to sign in to pass you a message. I was at her home all night and this morning the browser started acting up. When she types in geckosunlimited the browser does not connect. Says Safari can't connect to server. She does not know what is causing it. Anyway she said to tell you that pinworms can cause rectal irritation so it's possible the load was so high that she needs the medication in (sorry I can't remember the word she said) but I know she meant that instead of once a week it has to be given like a few days straight instead. I hope it works next time.

The metronaidazole? Or the panacure?

I have her on the phone and she said panacur. To make sure she is hydrated, do not let her cool side get too warm (she said don't kill her but she has to remind you, lol) and keep the humidity at least at 40%.

What you should do is have your animal seen by an actual veterinarian and stop taking medical advice from random people on internet forums that can't examine or properly diagnose your pet's issues. I understand that your vet is out on maternity leave, but there's certainly other vets that you could go to. You wouldn't trust your child's health care to a stranger on the internet, why should your pet be any different?

And on the same hand, certain people need to stop giving out medical advice when they can't examine or properly diagnose animals. I've warned about this before. It's good to be helpful and give advice, but unless you have a degree in veterinary medicine, you shouldn't be playing doctor on here. These are people's pet's lives at risk.

I'm sorry. It's my fault. I did not pass the whole message. She said another vet needed to do another fecal again because you can't keep giving more medicine and not find the real problem. She was just saying that that is what the vet will treat her for if she was to find pinworms. She has to see a vet for the test and for dosing instructions. Sorry, never again.

I realize this and I never said I was just going to give it to her without talking to my vet. Unfortunately Our other exotic vet charged me over $1200 over the course of a few weeks only to make me continually bring in my geckos who were already sick for examinations and Xrays the didn't need. And then charged me for fecals that I never had done.After visiting my vet I'm with now twice my first sick little girl is up to 30 g and showing no signs of still being sick. I can talk to the office at my vet and see who can help me and I assume they will have another exotic vet on staff. I'll have to find a vehicle to go in aswell seeing as how mine has kicked the bucket for the last time.

I don't want to sound like a whiny brat but if I was going to diagnose my animals myself I wouldn't need the encouragement of an anonymous person online I'd probably have done it already.

We talked to the vet on the phone today and she said to try another round of metronaidazole and we're scheduled to go in on the 24th for a follow up. We also switched her heating pad to a smaller on because it was too warm. Is it safe to turn the heating pads off during the day?
We're currently looking to find someone to ship us some baby silkworms or some eggs and some chow. They're the only thing she won't regurgitate if they're small enough but our pet store doesn't stock them small any more.

Mulberry Farms for baby silkies?

As long as your leo gets belly heat/ground heat of about 90 F, it should be OK. Can you get that during the day with the smaller heat pad turned off?

I don't know if I've said this already but she's on another round of the Metronaidazole. I took her up to the vet because she wouldn't open her eye and they washed out a piece of cocoa fibre. She was also given some SQ fluids. Her heart rate is good and she was feisty with the vet. Though, she has a black spot near her back leg that looks like a bruise. The vet said they don't normally bruise like that so I need to keep an eye on it and she took a picture to ask around with other vets. I don't think she knew what it was. She wasn't very concerned with it but I'm going crazy thinking the worst. Internal bleeding and things like that. I'm very pessimistic with these sorts of things. I'll post a picture when I can. It really worries me.

Take a good picture of the area. Not that anyone will be able to tell you what it is simply by looking at a picture, but it would be helpful for everyone to see.

You sure it's not a burn? You mentioned the heat mat was getting very hot and your not using a thermostat. Especially if you are using paper towels as substrate.

Do they turn a blackish blueish Purple? Like a bruise? I'm going to get a picture up here in a minute.

We did switch her to the smaller heating pad and I have her moist hide over it so she can't sleep too directly over it.

I am just hoping she is not becoming septic. When reptiles are suffering from septicemia they can develop petechiae in different areas. She looks seriously emaciated. As I mentioned before blood work would have been the smart thing to the from the beginning. Now she appears so much thinner and in a more dangerous condition. If that is the case metronidazole is not going to cut it.

It has been long enough and I tried to tell you she needed blood work and they should have done a study of her GI. Trying meds after meds just wasted valuable time and now she is in a fragile state. Try to get as much nutrition in her as possible.

They never suggested any of it to me and when we talked about blood work before they said she'd probably drop her tail from it and she'd be worse off so they didn't want to. I didn't know any better and no offence but everyone keeps preaching about not taking advice from anyone but the vet.

I'd like your honest opinion here with no sugar coating, is she better off being euthanized than going through more of this? Is this something where she is in too much pain?
Because if it's something I should be more seriously considering then I think I need to seriously think the whole situation through.
And if she's not in unbearable pain and the odds aren't 10000/1 I'd like it if you have any links to information on it that you could share with me I'd be grateful because I'm not finding too much with my computer being really slow.
