Another question: Where did you find the tall two-part rock/hide on the left?

That is an exo terra gecko cave. You can buy them in a lot of places. It's very heavy and made of two parts. The bottom part is a small dish that allows you to put some type of substrate in it if you want to make a moist hide out of it. I have about a 1/2 inch of coco fiber in mine and I add water to it about every other day to keep it moist. My gecko spends more time in there than anywhere in my habitat. Loves it. I have the medium size. Should have probably bought the large. Large would be ideal especially for adult geckos.

I saw those exo hides at the last reptile expo I was at. They were newly brought in at the store that was exhibiting. I use the zoomed verson for my humid hides on my finished (aka nice looking) enclosures. I still use the margarine tubs for functionality until I can replace them with the pretty ones.

im happy about this

I like it!

A few questions...

How large is the enclosure? How many geckos reside there? Can you post a picture from a little further back showing the entire enclosure?

I would be interested in building something like this. What products did you use to build it?

Thanks!
TP

Updated Tank

Hey folks,

I updated my gecko tank. I added a third hide for the warm side (the log) and changed out the water and feeding dish to something smaller. I've included pictures. Let me know what you think.

I also placed the probe for the mat heater in between a couple of the tiles. It sort of hides it, which helps keep the tank clean. I've been taking readings with the heat gun for the past 3 days to see if that has an effect on temps, and they seem to be holding steady.

I've also included a picture of the thermostats that I use. The picture also shows what the back of the rock wall looks like.

Have a great day!

Here's a picture of Geico's tank. His tank usually doesn't stay there, but instead in my room. I moved his tank because of Hurricane Sandy and I didn't want the tree in my yard falling and crushing him.
geicotank.jpg

Yes, the tank is only a 10 gallon, but Geico has lived in this exact tank for 7 years with no health problems due to temperature gradients. There is, however, a high possibility of me getting a 20 gallon long tank for him this Christmas and then I'd have more space to get him everything he needs.

Recently, I helped rescue a leopard gecko named Tango, who belongs to a teacher at my school. Tango was in terrible conditions and I felt like I needed to help. I gave the teacher the GU guidlines and now Tango is happy in his new enclosure. He received a complete renovation, and now he has a very nice looking enclosure (minus the sand).

Here's his viv before I intervined:

Geico looks underweight and nowhere near 7 years old in this picture. Can you take a close up picture of your gecko in a separate thread?

cricket4u:

I have a close up picture of Geico in a thread titled Leopard Gecko Tango: Class pet looks overweight/poor husbandry.

Over the summer, Geico went through a series of treatments for sand impaction. Since then, he has had trouble keeping weight on. I've been trying hard to fatten him up safely but he just doesnt gain much. Most of the weight he recovered from being sick was from waxworms. I took him off them after about a week since they're really bad for him. Also, Geico has always been on the slender side. He's never had weight-related problems.

And yes, Geico is 7. It's hard for me to believe it myself since he's so small.
