Learning to be a good Leo owner

Hi

My last thread (http://www.geckosunlimited.com/comm...pard-gecko-has-shed-properly-around-toes.html) got a bit off topic, so I've started a new thread which will hopefully be helpful to people with odd little queries/problems.

Hope you find it helpful.

Here are a few pics of Daff enjoying and exploring his new viv. Before you all reply and ask why there was no substrate on the UTH, he wandered over to that side before I'd finished putting the substrate in. It's got full cover now.

Here's an excellent link from Sleepy Dee in your neck of the woods. Check out what she says re corn cob pellets as a substrate.

Its not so much they hard for him to catch, he just really isn't interested in them anymore, he used to hunt like a gooden but now I think he's just getting lazy, I tried him last night and he just shunned the crickets, he ate a few meal worms then lost interest in them too, its normal for them to go through a day or too with lack of appetite though isn't it, some days you can't stop him eating lol, I'll carry on trying him though, he will have to start on them again at some point cause I really don't like feeding him meal worms

Hi,

Just to make sure, is he not showing any interest in the crickets at all or is he showing interest, but hesitates to chase them? Have you offered any other insects yet? It may be a good idea to start your own thread and provide pictures of your gecko and enclosure.

Yeah he just let's them vet on with their own thing, he eats meal worms and loves the wax worms and I think that's maybe why he's been picky, he's had about 3 wax worms in the space of a week and he will literally take them out my hand, I'll try using a bigger cricket and breaking back leg to give him a sporting.chance, if he goes for them then at least I know its down to them been too fast for him

Best not to feed any waxworms ever. Much better choices no matter what your goal is for your leo. Waxworms can be addictive for leos like ice cream for humans.

So he is eating other insects. In that case the crickets are too small. I would stop feeding wax worms if I were you.

You stated it differently in that post and why I became a little concerned.

Yeah that's why im trying to get him onto other things basically I got the wax worms as a treat then read how addictive they were, but I thought if he wasn't eating at all then it would be better to have 1 or 2 just so that I knew he'd fed, I'll sort out my cricket keeper when I get home and try to separate the larger ones and give the smaller ones time to grow, when I have my next day off work I'll be calling around to see if I can get hold of some phoenix and horns to give him more variation

I think Phoenix worms are called Calciworms here in the UK, and I don't think we have Hornworms at all (too invasive). I may be wrong though.

Well suppose I'll have to try and locate the roaches then, they give me the creeps a little though, but then again watching dexter hunt them down may prove entertaining for me haha
