Silk Worms

I have had the same LG since it was 6 grams, it is now 18. It has always been very healthy and primarily fed Dubia's and Giant Mealworms. Its stools and urates were always healthy and I had very little concern.

I recently bought about 20 Silk Worms, which the LG went crazy for. The next day came the runny stools. Is this typical with Silk Worms? Are they known to carry parasites? Could this just be a bad gastrointestinal reaction to a new prey item. They seem to be very healthy prey items. These are just some of the first questions that ran through my head.

Silkworms are kinda soft so if your gecko eats a lot it is possible for him to get loose stools. A sudden change in diet often accompanies a loose stool. This is usually normal for the first 2 feedings. If it persists for more than 5 feedigs then you might need a fecal checkup or better yet just slowly get him back to his old food.

Otherwise, I think your gecko just ate a lot so that's normal.

No worries. I mostly reply if i had a similar experience, encountered the same dilemma or just knowledge of some degree on the matter. Most people just have never had problems so they don't exactly know what to tell you or how they can give advice properly hehe.

Softer stools are completely normal with silks and horns. I don't feed them too many days in a row because I've had it turn into diarrhea.
