MY new babies

My sister thought she had two females and ended up with a pair, and just hatched her first two babies. I will be getting them for Christmas. My mom is getting e all the supplies for Christmas. Already have most of them. Right now they are too small to travel. I named them Anna and Emmy. I am new to leos, and new to this forum and excited to be here. Oh, and they should both be females, as she incubated them at the temperature for females. She thinks they are albino. I am trying to learn all the colors and terms, but it is a bit confusing.2015-08-28 12.13.05.jpg

Welcome to the forum.

The babies your sister produced appear to be Tremper albinos or possibly Bell albino, definitely not Rainwater albino. I'm leaning much more towards Tremper albino in this case due to color. If you can get photos of the parents of the babies, that would also help to some extent.

I strongly recommend upon logging back in, clicking on the word Community at the top navigation pane. From there, click on Member List and search for user Elizabeth Freer. Elizabeth has some wonderful leopard gecko care links pertaining to various aspects of leopard gecko keeping.

Thank you Chris. This is a picture of the male. They think the babies will look like him. I will try to get a pic of the female. They figure since they bought them together from a pet shop, that they are siblings. They thought they were both female. Surprise!!

Got to love those little surprises, Had a few of those also. Congrats on the new little guys and good to hear your sister will be keeping them for a bit so they can grow up. I feel a lot of people allow the geckos to go too soon, I like them to be a few months old.

Thanks Warhawk and Tokaybyt. Here are some pics of the mother. The one in the aquarium shows her markings, and the other two show her coloring.

So looks like mom is heterozygous for albino. The babies could potentially have a little orange coloration and some reduced spotting to them too from the looks of mom. Time will tell.

Warhawk...back in the 90s it was pretty common to let young leopard go up FS around 1-3 months of age. What actually started the selling virtually breeder sized leos was the refining of old school tangerine and then later when the Hine Line hypos came over state-side. Many breeders started to hold onto young longer to see what they'd develop into, ultimately selling them older and at a higher price. It's a rather common practice in the green tree python community, particularly with hi-yellow and hi-blue lineage animals; where $5K+ isn't uncommon for non-color changed neonates from proven blue lineage. Sucks paying $5K for a baby that has the potential to turn blue and it winds up green. :\

She does look nice and healthy.

They are both really healthy. The female isn't as friendly as the male, but I have read that this is typical. I hope I don't have a problem with my girls. I will be keeping them together. My sister is raising them together, so they should get along okay. I hope.

My sister just sent me some new pics of Anna and Emmy. At 3 weeks old they have grown an inch and Anna is 7 grams and Emmy is 6 grams. I have the tank set up and ready, so when I get them in a few months, I will be ready.

Hi Chickycat ~

Welcome aboard!

Your background scene really adds depth to your 20 long. Nice. The substrate mat is interesting. I've not seen those before. I hope it's easy to clean. After your leos choose a poop spot, leave a folded paper towel right there. That will make clean up easy.

How large is your UTH? It's good to have an 11 x 17 inch UTH for a 20 long.

Make sure the warmest side is on one end and the cool side is the opposite end. For overhead heat check out ceramic heat emitters. They emit heat, but no light. Leos can see red and that might be stressful.

I recommend three hides: warm moist, warm dry, and cool dry. It would be better if your leos did not have to share their hides, but then you'd probably need a 40 gallon breeder tank.

Hi Elizabeth,
I explained the substrate I am using on a post in the substrate section. It is very washable, it can actually be used in an aquarium. I had already planned to put down paper towel once I figure out what corner they will be using.
The UTH is 11 x 17.
The hide that is in there now is the wet hide.d MY sister bought the other two, one for the warm side and one for the cool, but I just haven't received them yet. But there will be 3 hides in there.
Hmmm...everything I have read says they cannot see red light. It is what my sister uses on their tank. Thank you for letting me know.

It sounds as if you are mostly on the right path. All leos are not as lucky. :)

Here are a couple lighting links.

PS:
If you end up buying a temp gun, see whether your leos follow the red laser spot.

Never shine the laser in their eyes! Click: http://www.geckosunlimited.com/comm...-intros-and-pics/79471-red-laser-pointer.html

Here is one of Emmy posing. Took this a few days ago. She stayed like this for the longest time. My sister's female, their mom, does this also. I don't know why this keeps putting the pics in sideways. They aren't like that on my computer.
