Our First Eggs

So, I woke up this morning to find 2 pairs of shiny white eggs in the P. l. laticauda habitat that weren't there when I went to bed (one beside a sanseveria (sp?) and one right in the very front of the viv, in a bed of live moss). With 3 females and 1 male in there, I'm guessing that 2 of the little ladies laid eggs?

Unfortunately, I accidentally broke one of the eggs while transferring them out of the viv, but there are still 3 eggs, and with luck some of them will actually hatch. Here's hoping! I'm glad that they seem to be happy enough in there to lay eggs :).

Anyway, wish us luck. It would be a huge thrill if we managed to have some babies!

You're on your way to becoming Phelsuma laticauda parents! It sounds as if you are E-A-G-E-R!

Sometimes I use a plastic spoon to transfer fragile eggs into their incubating spot.

How did you know my maiden name? LOL!

I hunted around the house for a plastic spoon to do the transferring with, and had no luck! Was afraid to use the normal cutlery, as it's big and heavy. So I used my hand/fingers, and gripped a bit too hard. Those things are fragile! I'm going to go to the dollar store today, though, and buy some plastic spoons, in case more eggs are forthcoming at some time :).

Well, some things are transparent! ;-)

McDonald's McFlurry spoons work. I have one pink Baskin-Robbins' spoon I use for eggs.

I use plastic forks for raking the coco fiber for chirper eggs. :)

You are a mine of good information! Thank you for all of your advice :). Went to the dollar store and got a set of knives/forks/spoons (no spoons-only packages available). Will put all but one of the spoons in one of my Jeeps, and we'll have cutlery if we need it on the go. Haven't been to MickyD's or Baskin & Robbins in years, but occasionally in the summer, I'll splurge on a McFlurry and share it with Z....

No new eggs to be seen, so if female #3 laid any, they're well hidden in the micro-jungle that is their home :).

What are "chirpers"? Some sort of gecko or frog, I presume?

Ha ha ha, sometimes! :coverlaugh:

"Chirpers" is the nickname I give my Cyrtodactylus peguensis zebraicus geckos.

In fact I did see my second Pacific tree frog the other night when I took out the trash. I was attracted by his motion! He stopped to rest in a small plant near the steps.

WOOT! 2 new eggs found this morning that weren't in the viv last night when I went to bed at midnight. That makes 5 total--3 on 6/27, and 2, today (7/11).

I'm gonna have to double check approximate hatching times from date of laying.... :)
