This almost seems like it is more very very EARLY in the season. In my experience, my U. phantasticus laid eggs from Oct - Jan. I did have one female already gravid that I got in September of 2000. Maybe you should expect more in 30 days? I'm excited for you about the guentheri! I wish I had had the chance to keep them when I had Uros.

I know that is why I was shocked. I did not expect them to lay until the end of next month! But all the eggs seem to be healthy. I have had my wife candle them and they all have veins in them and seem to be doing fine. Who knows maybe the satanics are from a diffrent local and this is the breeding season for that local.

Thoughts?

I can not wait for the U.Guentheri to hatch out. That will be a great experance for me and my wife! And I hope they will keep breeding! I have the one male and 3 females in the tank. So unless the male only is interested in the one female there is a good possability and I am hoping that the other 2 are going to drop soon! I will keep you posted!

Thanks

Mike

I've got two U.p gravid right now and both are looking for lay sites, not just dumping bad eggs from thier perches. who can really tell me the "season" for this
species? is it defineable at all?

Through chatting with Neil Meister, and from our own experiences over the years I have found that phantasticus typically begin to increase egglaying activity during the colder months of the year (roughly Oct-Mar). I find that ours are most active when the nighttime values begin to dip below 64. I've also found that we have a higher success rate of hatchings during the colder months as well. The hatchlings seem to be a little stronger, and they seem to make it out of the egg a little easier.

I agree but am worried about the eggs at that varying temp for incibation. i read this also in the book bo i guess it okay. what precautions are you taking with regards to the gut load or preprations for the females? Thanks!
