Lepidodactylus lugubris smashing eggs

One of my mourning geckos was due to lay a clutch (they always seem due to lay a clutch!) but something strange happened.

They always lay in the same spot in a fake plant in their 12"x12"x13" enclosure. A couple days ago, I looked at them to find one egg smashed on the substrate that looked like it had been fertile, but then also saw a large area in the upper corner of the front pane of glass that had a white substance spread around that looked like bird urates. It had to have been an egg, but it had to be rather liquid in order to spread out like it did. I'll try to take and post a picture.

Has anyone had something similar happen?

The white smear was from an egg. The yolks are "rather liquid" initially. Nothing to worry about. As we know there will be many more eggs to come!!

Have you had Ll hatchlings yet? They are so cute and only 1" and 3/8" in total length.

Are you dusting their prey fairly regularly with Rep Cal's Phosphorus-Free Calcium with D3? Other brands have too much vitamin A.

Hi Elizabeth,
Glad to hear you chime in. I have not had hatchlings yet, but I have 3 clutches incubating in situ. The first of those clutches was laid in May and I'd have expected them to hatch by now in September!

I use Miner-All Indoor to dust my prey items (for all my insectivores), roughly 3 out of 5 feedings.

Any Ll hatchlings yet?

Are you keeping these eggs at least at 70 F? They usually hatch within 60 days or so. Maybe your eggs are not fertile.
