N.levis- health problem

I have a problem with my N. levis female, she's getting thin, couple of days ago she was 16 grams and now she's 10 grams. Yesterday she was bahaving normaly and today she's very apathetic and she eats very few. I feed her with n.cinerea roaches. She's defecating normaly but i found some sand in a extrement and her belly is hard. I use exo terra red sand as a substrate. Her cloaca area also doesn't look good. I had the same problem with my U. milii male, he was getting thiner and thiner and he died finally couple of days ago. I went to my friend who's a vet today and he told me that perhaps she's eating sand and this is a cause of this problem, but he's not too expirienced with reptiles and i don't know if he's right, all breeders are recommending sand as a substrate for n.levis and i don't know if this can be a reason. Meanwhile i moved her on a paper towel. What else can i do?

Please help me fast, i don't want to loose her.

Hi,

how old is you levis female ?
I keep my levis on red sand (like all my geckos) and had no problems so far.
I know the "sand eating problem" from Leopardgeckos. It seems mainly to be a undersupply with calcium and other minerals. To compensate this, the Leopardgeckos start to eat sand. Maybe you have the same problem with your levis.
What supplementation do you use ?
Paper towel is a good idea so far. You said she is defecating normally, which is in my opinion is good sign.

An other reason for all this could be intestinal parasites. Get a fecal sample to a vet or specialized laboratory to check for parasites as soon as possible.

Good luck!

Unfortunately it's cryptosporidiosis, i've lost 3 geckos by now, my levis levis pair and U.milii male. My vet gave some medicine and i hope this will help.

Oh my! Cryptos ? That´s horrible!!

Did your vet say which species of Cryptos it is ? What medicine did you get ? So far i have just heard of Leopardgeckos having cryptos.
That´s very bad news!

I wish you all the best!!

He told me that it's hard to tell what crypto species is this, he has no possibility to check it. I use azithromycinum by now and we'll see if it works, if this medicine won't work then we'll have to change it for something stronger.

Thank you for good words.

I have also nice group of leopard geckos morphs and ball pythons, but they look good so far. I hope that's the end of deaths. I have a friend who lost half of his geckos two years ago because of crypto, i hope my case will be different.
