Hi!
I wanted to show you this cute photo of wild hedgehogs eating the cat food in our front-yard.

hedgehogs01.jpg

The forest starts only about 50 meters from our house and all through the summer wild hedgehogs come to our yard to eat the cat food we leave out for our cats.
They go crazy, if I bring them some Blaptica roaches to eat.
They are not afraid at all and will start taking the roaches from my hand very quickly.

Rather than run away, they actually hiss and complain, if I turn on the light outside. :)

Here's another one.

How cute!! I love hedgehogs, their so funny. I have worked in an animal shelter, and one day a baby hedgehog just walked in! He wasn't afraid off us at all, and diddn't curl up. I feeded him and eventually named him "Sonic" (how lame...) He became really tame! I love them ever since:D

Yes, they are really great animals.
Unfortunately so many are killed on the roads every year during summer.
Instead of running off the road, they just curl up and hope for the best, which usually doesn't end well.
I've occasionally stopped in the middle of the road, pick them up and take them off the asphalt.

They're fairly popular as pets here in the US. They even come in a bunch of different morphs (ie albino, etc). They're REALLY cute as babies. I've never seen wild ones before though. I didn't know they were naturally that docile. Great pics.

I want to get a hedgehog for a pet. That was my first choice before geckos, and now I want to get both.

great photos Matjaz! I love hedgehogs, we have a family of them running around outside most nights, including a couple of tiny ones. They are hilarious animals!

I think the most common hedgehogs in the pet trade are the african dwarf hedgehogs. The ones that are found here in Finland and I suspect the rest of Europe, are _much_ larger than the ones in the pet trade.
