thanks for all the responses about Blondie and Rosie. Does anyone have hints to get Blondie to use the humid hide? I have tried coconut shell with warm damp moss then with damp papertowels, the tupperware container with both the damp moss and the papertowels and then changed sizes of container then covered over so she was hiding then without covering. She races out and if I put her into a covered (with airholes) container, she gets so stressed out. Despite soaking baths in warm water and using q-tip to try to roll off the skin, she has lost 2 toes. We go through this every shed! any hints? I changed the substrate from sand to paper towel (the ceramic tiles were not cut small enough) to try to avoid the drying of skin. I don't think it is the environment as Rosie has no problems shedding, and Blondie only has a problem with her back feet. In watching her she seems to have problems bending enough to pick at them.
As for the chow, he is one of the 2 I currently have. His name is Jake and he is a shaded red one year old and the companion to my 13 1/2 year old Abby (another chow) Thanks for the comment about him
